Monte Caslano – Hiking in Ticino

Monte Caslano

High up on Monte Caslano

Monte Caslano – Hiking in Ticino. In a few hours we reach Lugano by train. No sooner have we passed through the Gotthard tunnel than the landscape changes and usually the weather as well. When the first snow falls here, the weather in the southern part of Switzerland is usually milder and more pleasant. That is why Ticino is the favorite destination of many travelers.

Monte Caslano

In Lugano we take the suburban train in the direction of Ponte Tresa. In Caslano we get off. From the station we follow the road towards the lake. Our hike starts next to the Osteria Battello. Just follow the signs. Monte Caslano is about 520 meters high. We decided to take the steep ascent. In spring or summer, the circular route would be even more interesting, as many flowers are in bloom. Information boards point out and describe the flora and fauna. Actually, we are glad it is not too hot, because the path is exhausting. At the most beautiful places there are benches. Here we enjoy the view. Of course, the photos must not be missing. The view is magnificent. At the top of the peak there is a chapel. Here we also find seats. Wow, the view is beautiful. We don’t stay here for long, because we are already hungry and want to eat something in Caslano. That means another hour of hiking before we reach the village.

Caslano

At Osteria Battello we find a free table right on the lake. We are super hungry. We decide on pizza and pasta. Within a short time the plates are empty. We still take the time for an ice cream sundae.

Before we drive back to Lugano, we stroll through the village. The flea market in the center of the village is worth a visit. What there is not everything standing around.

The whole tour takes about 2.5 hours. From the train station to the starting point it is another 15 minutes and back again. The way we have chosen should be done with hiking boots. It is stony and partly there is gravel on the way. However, the view of Lago di Lugano from up there compensates for the steep climb.

Maybe this would be something for the fall vacations. The OllO World Team wishes you a great trip.
