Sahara dust in the air
Pizol Panorama High Trail. With the cable car from Bad Ragaz we go up. Then we continue to the station Laufböden and there, our winter hike starts. Arriving at the top, the sun shows us a bit blurred on the horizon. The frozen snowflakes crunch under the soles of our shoes. There is a brisk wind. For the time being, the sky is still blue. Around noon, however, the Sahara dust pushes through and a beautiful atmosphere is created. The sky changes it’s color and the mountains stand in front of an orange-yellow backdrop. Simply marvelous! Lucky us, we are just in time at the right spot.
Pizol Panorama High Trail – UNESCO World Heritage Site
The Pizol Panorama High Trail with its mountain panorama is located in the middle of the UNESCO World Heritage Tectonic Arena Sardona. Start is at 2’222 m above sea level on the Laufböden. The view reaches from the striking Churfirsten near Lake Walen, over the Rhine valley to Lake Constance and the neighboring Grisons mountains. The winter hiking trail is about 4 km long.
The Pizol restaurant is made for a breather. The coffee stop comes just in time! The take away shop is tempting, then we are thirsty and hungry! I feel like tea to warm up.
Two gondola lifts lead to the destination
Two gondola lifts take winter sports enthusiasts from Bad Ragaz and Wangs to the slopes on the Pizol. Up you will find, 43 km of slopes for skiers and snowboarders, which are accessed by eleven chairlifts and ski lifts.
The parking lot costs CHF 5 for the whole day. The day tickets are designed differently. The GA or half-fare card is credited. There are additional details on the Pizol website.
