Flash visit to Como
Como day trip. With the train you are super fast in the south. In about 2 hrs. 30 min. we are already in Italy. How fast time flies, in company anyway. As soon as we crossed the Gotthard, the sun shines on us. This lifts the spirits of the other passengers as well. From Chiasso it is a stone’s throw to Como. Oops, also here the building boom is going on, some houses are being renovated. We can only guess how stately the rows of houses will look later. Wow.
Strolling through Como’s alleys
In many alleys and squares you can find garden inns. Wonderful! Having a coffee or tea at the bar and strolling through the alleys after refreshment is exactly what we need now. We deny ourselves to buy a piece of the delicious patisserie, because we want to go further. Sun hats, summer dresses and beautiful sandals are on display in the various boutiques. Here, too, what a great selection. I’m spoiled for choice. I really have to take a step back, because I have planned the day differently. The many alleys invite you to linger. Again and again another way leads to the next strolling mile. Fortunately, the GPS has now become a good friend, without this I would be lost, because I like to drift through the streets and find myself so far from the intended path.
By rack railroad to Brunate
The rack railroad rides leisurely up the hill. In 10 minutes the destination is reached. Brunate is the starting point for hikes. We just wanted to enjoy the view. Unfortunately, at the moment there is construction work going on up here as well, so that the view in front of the terminus is blocked with grids. Instead, we took a break in the nearby restaurant, with a beautiful view, on Como. However, we wanted to eat at the lake below, so we took the next train back down.
Around the lake
The paths around the lake follow the road. The most beautiful places are occupied by the Lidos. Already we see sun-hungry bathers on the deck chairs. We got a nice table at the Lido of Villa Geno. On sunny days a salad is a good alternative. We were amazed when it was served. The portion was huge and one would have been enough for both of us. The Mediterranean version tasted wonderful. There is already a lot of activity in and on the lake. Already a mood of departure is announced. Unfortunately we have to leave. We really enjoyed the great weather and the Italian flair. Wistfully we go back into the rain.
