Get Fresh Air
Winter hike Hoch-Ybrig. Let’s go! From the Weglosen station along the Seeblisee to Fuederegg and at the other end of the Seeblisee back to the cable car station.
On Fuederegg there is a mountain restaurant with a large terrace. If now there was no Corona lockdown and you could comfortably drink a coffee outside, the world would be fine. From up there, you can watch the ski school, let your eyes wander over the mountains and warm up in the sun.
Winter Hiking versus Snowshoeing
In contrast to other winter hikes, I found walking on the Hoch-Ybrig a bit more tedious, as the snow on the trail was not frozen. So I always sank in slightly. With snowshoes one would have been right here. Nonetheless, I enjoyed hiking through the snowy forest trails. It’s good to let your mind wander in the fresh air.
Various Winter Sports available
There are several routes for cross-country skiers, ski tour hikers and snowshoe runners. Cross-country ski trails are also popular in the valley below. Skiers get their fill of fun and can choose from a variety of ski lifts. Fortunately, at the cable car station Weglosen, there is the possibility to buy a warming dish in the self-service restaurant. Even if there is almost no seating, you can still fortify yourself. I always take a hot coffee or tea in my backpack since Corona. Many winter hiking trails have benches or loungers set up at wonderful vantage points. So you can still take a break.
Tip: The parking garage Weglosen is free with a ski day pass. Super great!
Hiking around the Sihlsee
On the way back there was a stop at the Sihlsee. From Einsiedeln starts an easy 2-2.5 hr winter hike along the Sihlsee. Unfortunately there was no time to check it out. Surely there will be another opportunity. The Hoch-Ybrig and also Einsiedeln can be reached by car within 30-45 minutes from Zurich. There are also good connections by public transport.
