Meeting place of the menhirs, Yverdon-les-Bains
Visit in Yverdon-les-Bains. I like cities that have been built on a river or lake. Yverdon-les-Bains is one of them. What is pleasant is that you can go there directly from Zurich without having to change trains. Walking along the lake and a cultural experience is part of the day trip.
Menhirs from Clendy
The menhirs are stones, some of which are up to 4-5 meters high. They were erected more than 6000 years ago and stand at Yverdon-les-Bains on the shores of Lake Neuchâtel. Some of the stones can be seen in the local museum, they have been replaced with concrete stones in the clearing. It is believed that the stones represent gods or humans who were worshipped by society. The place is impressive. You should allow yourself a few minutes to let the power work on you.
There is a hiking trail and a bicycle path along the lake. So I have already met many cyclists at an early hour.
Beach, camping site and swimming pool
The hiking trail led me directly to the beach. After the clearing a large meadow opens up with barbecue areas and swimming possibilities. There is also a playground for children. Adjacent to the tennis court is the restaurant a la Plage. On the terrace you can watch the hustle and bustle on the lake. The path continues to the camping site. This is beautifully situated. Unfortunately, this year bathing is to be enjoyed with caution, especially for animals, because bacteria, which are found in algae, have besieged the lake. A pity. Nevertheless there are other sports activities around the lake.
Castle Yverdon-les-Bains
The castle, which is located in the middle of the old town, houses a museum. It was announced on the website, a fashion exhibition of famous designers, unfortunately, the exhibition was changed at short notice and the great clothes were not to be admired. I was already disappointed. But the nice woman at the counter convinced me to visit the historical part of the museum. This was a good advice, because the museum is beautifully designed, even for visitors who would have preferred to look at the fashion part.
Old Town
The old town around the castle is surrounded by cafés and restaurants. Here you can get a vacation feeling, as you can watch the hustle and bustle on the square while having a cup of coffee.
It was a pleasant day trip with a nice walk along the lake.
