Truffle market in Murten. The market is a culinary event for all truffle lovers. It takes place in the old town of Murten and lasts two days, usually in November. There are many exhibitors offering truffle tubers and truffle products such as pasta, risotto and various spices. In the evening, truffle lovers enjoy the legendary truffle fondue. We recommend booking a table in advance, as the fondue evening is very popular. Truffle risotto is available during the day. No reservation is required for this delicious dish. The truffle market in Murten has become a popular meeting place for Swiss truffle lovers in recent years.
Swiss truffles
Truffle tubers are also found in Switzerland. Not to the same extent as in Italy or France, of course. The exhibitors have pictures of their dogs on the stand. They are very proud of their harvest and are happy to talk about their dogs.
Black or white truffles?
The main difference between black and white truffles lies in their shape, color, taste and use. Black truffles have an irregular surface and dark flesh. They are available from mid-November to mid-March, mainly in France and Italy. In contrast, white truffles have a gnarled shape and firm flesh with white veins running through it. They are available from September to the beginning of January in Italy and are considered the rarer and more expensive variety. The price of white truffles is in between 1,000 – 10,000 CHF per kilo and the black truffles from 100 – 1,000 CHF per kilo. White truffles are only served raw and have a distinct smell. Black truffles can also be cooked. These have an intense, earthy taste.
