Giardina 2024 garden fair

Giardina 2024

Giardina 2024 garden fair. I visited it again this year. Although I don’t need anything, I’m tempted to go every year. This year it will take place from March 13 to 17, 2024 at Messe Zürich. On an area of around 30,000 m², 220 leading suppliers from the industry will be presenting their products and ideas for life in the garden, on the patio and on the balcony. Find inspiration for your green oasis here!

The focal points at Giardina are

  1. Show gardens: Experience impressive show gardens in various sizes from 20 m² to over 400 m².
  2. Garden furniture: The largest garden furniture exhibition in Switzerland offers a variety of styles and designs.
  3. Experience gastronomy: Enjoy culinary highlights in the midst of blooming garden worlds.

This year, the focus was on the natural garden. I was pleasantly surprised by shelf attachments and irrigation systems for tubs. Solar lights and ceramic cones with LED fairy lights conjure up beautiful lighting effects at night. So you can enjoy a relaxed dinner at sunset even in the smallest of spaces. You don’t need much space to set up a cozy patio or balcony.

Kokedama

The Japanese trend will also be presented at Giardina. Kokedama is a fascinating Japanese garden art in which plants grow in a ball of earth covered in moss. The name Kokedama is made up of the Japanese words “Koke” (musgo) and “Dama” (ball).

What is Kokedama?

Kokedama is a type of Japanese bonsai in which plants are cultivated in a ball of soil and moss. The roots are visible and the moss grows around the ball.

The term “Kokedama” literally means “moss ball” in Japanese.

Materials used:

Kokedamas are made from natural materials such as coconut fiber, peat moss and potting soil. This environmentally friendly and biodegradable alternative to plastic or resin hanging pots is particularly popular.

Suitable plants for kokedamas include heartleaf philodendron, ivy and lemon fern.

Care instructions:

  • Watering: Water the roots regularly, at least once a week or when the moss is dry. Spray the leaves with spring water to prevent mineral deposits.
  • Fertilization: Use a water-soluble fertilizer for foliage plants and spray the leaves monthly with a diluted solution.
  • Location: Protect the Kokedamas from direct sunlight and placed in a location with indirect light or partial shade. The kitchen or bathroom are good locations due to the warmth and humidity.

Kokedamas are not only decorative, but also a unique way to bring nature into your home. If you feel like it, you can even create your own kokedamas at the fair and bring a touch of Japan to your surroundings! I will definitely attend a course at a later date and create my own kokedama. The idea is fascinating.

Have a great weekend, your OllO World Team.
