Locarno – Market day

Locarno - Markttag

Locarno – Market day. Thursday is market day on the Piazza Grande in Locarno. Should I go to the sun or to the first snow? Since for me the winter season starts in December, so I decided for sun and warmth. This was a wise decision. Hardly the Gotthard tunnel was done, the sun dazzled at the other end. Simply wonderful.

Locarno – market day, Piazza Grande

Market vendors have gathered in the Piazza Grande and set up their stalls. For the approaching winter, the summer items, knitwear have given way. From hats to scarves and sweaters, I find a rich selection. Indian jewelry is still popular. Necklaces and bracelets made of stones, silver and leather are lovingly presented at the stalls. No idea why this is so persistent.

A little further back, are the food stalls. Too bad I came by train, because the boxes of tangerines as well as the fresh olives look so tempting. Under the arches, the restaurants still have their tables outside. It is also pleasantly warm today. I was tempted to have a vermicelle. Wow, was it delicious. There is a raspberry filling at the core. For once a slightly different variation.

Vermicelles – just delicious

Along the lake to Tenero

A hike was not planned. I didn’t want to go back yet, so I took a walk to Tenero. Many cyclists and walkers with dogs had the same idea. In the background I can see the mountains with their sugar peaks, which shows that the snow is spreading. Wow, time is running and my journey in Locarno will find an end. Unfortunately, I’ll be back in the fog again in a few hours.

To Ticino by train

With public transport you are now super fast in Bellinzona, Lugano or even in Locarno. Also Italian cities like Milan or Turin can be reached quickly. Since I am a train fan, I enjoy these trips very much.

Do you have already plans? So, if you want to soak up the sun without the snow, Ticino is the place to be. The OllO World team hopes you enjoy the trip.

OllO World App

We also have an app with lots of inspiration for trips. Who hasn’t downloaded the app yet? Here’s the link in the App Store. A web version for Android users is in the works.
